The long weekend is upon us but many of the things we would normally do for Memorial Day — a cookout with friends, a trip to the beach — aren’t really a possibility this year. I’m sure I will continue my quest to explore all the cemeteries in town but even that will be in short visits as it is quickly becoming too hot to be out except early morning and late evening.

When the pandemic lockdown began, I thought I would have all this extra time to finally read, but I found I had significant trouble concentrating. I would read a few pages but my mind would begin wandering. But in the last few days, I have found my way to really enjoy reading again so I thought I would attempt a read-a-thon over the long weekend. Some of these I’ve started but set aside when I couldn’t focus, and some of these are new.

Here is my stack:

Will you be reading this weekend?

  1. Ooh, TWO pirate books! You are living your best life, truly. I don’t have a long weekend but am hoping to get into NK Jemisin’s latest, The City We Became, as well as make some progress on some of my nonfiction reading. I am reading a book about the history of dissenting opinions in the US Supreme Court and like — it’s interesting but it is DENSE.
